This urban simulation has been created to assess future developments in urban planning as well as the economic development of cities. It was developed based on data about urban principles. The theories and methods used were developed at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich and further researched by us. The simulation has been programmed based on the most recent research in artificial intelligence.
The urban simulation makes it possible to reproduce cities or urban regions and to simulate future developments in the defined area. This methodology helps visualize the urban principles and development potential of a city, region or entire country. The resulting studies provide the bases for urban planning measures that generate development potential for the future economic development of a city.

Urban Simulation:
The shifts in development potential due to an increase or decrease in traffic are shown during commuter traffic, shopping traffic and traffic having to do with goods transport.

Planning Analyses and Planning Strategies in the Simulation:
- The effects of planning variants:
In the simulation, variants in urban planning can be tested and their impact on a city’s future economic development can be seen. For specific planning objectives, the simulation can be used to find the planning variant that provides the best possible solution for urban development and the future economic development of a city.
- The development potential of various functions:
The simulation can be used to visualize the development potential of various functions. Development potential measures how economical a certain function is. The underuse or overuse of a location’s development potential can impair its future economic development.
- Urban development areas and specific functions:
Development potential shows what is economically the most optimal location for a certain function in an urban space. In the simulation, the development potential of the various functions can be adapted to a function plan or corrected.
- Migration:
The simulation shows trends in how functions change locations. Functions follow their strongest development potential. The urban simulation allows you to recognize the trends in these shifts of location on time and prevent the supersession of other functions.
- The profitability of a function:
The appropriate distribution of development potential results in optimally ordered functions. The urban simulation can be used to check the profitability of a function at a specific location, which means that unprofitable investments can be foreseen.
- Traffic developments:
This simulation also contains a traffic simulation. The future economic development of a city can be analyzed in terms of its effects on traffic. An increase or decrease in traffic can cause a shift in development potential. If such trends last for a longer period of time, then the central locations of a city or urban region will shift in accordance with the development potential.
Optimization Through the Simulation
- The way the functions of a city or urban region are ordered plays a role in economic development. Through the simulation, future urban development plans can always be strategically selected in order to generate the most optimal economic development for a city.
- The economic development of a city is directly dependent on the effects of changes in urban development. In the urban simulation, the future economic developments of a city or urban region can be planned or strategically decided.
- Experience has shown that without an urban simulation, the effects of urban planning can rarely be assessed in a way that takes the complexity of economic development into consideration, which is why cities often don’t make use of a lot of economic development potential.
